Sun, Wind, and Internships

The Scout Summer internship program is in full swing, and our 24 interns have been settling in nicely. The summer program started just after Memorial Day, and they are already making a large impact on the company and their smaller teams. As we enter July, Marketing Intern Madeline Loughlin sat down with some of our interns to talk about how their internships are progressing at Scout.

Team building is core to our culture at Scout. When asked about her team, Interconnections and Transmissions Intern Rebecca Thompson reflected on the inspiration she gets from her manager, Christian Alva.

“Christian is so knowledgeable,” she explains,he is always happy to help me with any question I have when I am unfamiliar with a topic, and I am constantly impressed with his ability to do equations that he hasn’t worked with before.”

When asked about her current project, she emphasized the balance between receiving guidance from her team and being given the independence to contribute her skills.

“I feel like I am actually doing something for the team and being a part of them, which feels good”.

Scout’s aim to dismantle the grunt-work stereotype tied to internships has held true based on the experiences of our interns so far. Accounting Intern and current CU Denver Master’s student Sunny Patel emphasized this point.

“Through weekly intern events, I feel like I am really getting to know everyone” he said. “Earlier this month, our intern cohort built bridges with marshmallows. We really had to work together collaboratively to make the bridge stand. There are always friendly faces in the office and all the full- time employees are making a big effort to get to know us, too.”

M&A Intern Ethan Subra says his team has gone the extra mile to support him and the other finance intern Gabe.

“The team has been so helpful when it comes to taking me to the next level. My manager advocated for Gabe and me to get access to well-respected financial courses. I’ll get to put that on my resume, and I appreciate how willing Scout is to take the extra step to help sharpen our skills and add more to the team.”

When asked what project Ethan is currently working on, he was immediately excited to dive into the specifics: “We are looking at old projects that are going to be made new again to generate new power. We are going to be optimizing assets and figuring out how to make them better.” Ethan explains that he likes this project because he sees real longevity when it comes to the work he is doing here at Scout.

The Scout internship program is more than something to add to the resume; it’s a real community with real opportunities to add to the company and team for the long run. With the rest of the summer ahead of us, this intern cohort is set to continue to do big things for Scout in the coming months.
