Data Science Intern

The Company

Scout Clean Energy is a leading US renewable energy developer, owner and operator headquartered in Boulder, Colorado. Scout is developing a MW portfolio of over 5,000 MW of wind, solar and energy storage projects across 11 US states.  Scout is an owner-operator with expertise in all aspects of renewable power project development, permitting, power marketing, finance, construction and asset management. Position Description

This paid role will support the Asset Management team’s decision-making processes by improving and creating Python and SQL code that the team uses to analyze operational data. You will report directly to Scout’s Manager of Performance Management and work closely with the Remote Operations Center team.

Your key responsibilities will include the following:

  • Pull data from APIs or databases
  • Clean up and write code to analyze data pulled from APIs or databases
  • Refine or develop documentation for existing Python script
  • Help automate the Python scripts
  • Write procedures for monitoring and troubleshooting the scripts
  • Import data into Scout’s database
  • Write code to automatically import data to Scout’s database
  • Integrate scripts with MS Flow
  • Create new databases as required
  • Collaborate / Share results and tools
  • Support other analytical activities as requested

The tools will provide lasting impact for the Asset Management team since they will continue to use them in the months and years following the internship.

Qualifications

  • Working towards or recently completed a bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Math, Data Science, Business Administration, Economics, Statistics, or a related field
  • Strong written communication skills. Hands-on experience with code documentation is required.  Please be prepared to provide a writing sample, or sample of documentation for previously written code.
  • Hands-on experience developing and reviewing Python and SQL code is required. Hands-on experience with R is also preferred.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • Experience with MS SharePoint and the MS Flow
  • Interest in the renewable energy industry, specifically the operation of utility-scale wind farms.
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in delivery and in results.

Compensation

Target hourly rate: $20-25/hour depending on experience.
