A Summer to Remember: Wrapping Up the 2024 Summer Intern Program

12 weeks came and went and our summer class of 24 interns certainly made our mark on Scout and vice versa. With the intern program coming to a close this Friday, I checked in with a few of my fellow interns and asked them how their summer with Scout is wrapping up.

Scout’s focus on fostering positive collaboration among team members, where friendships can continue outside of the 9-5, stuck out to a lot of us in the program. Scout Reliability intern Darrah Boyle formed long-lasting relationships this summer on the Operations Engineering team.

“I worked really closely with our Data Intern, Abby [Alpert], spending a lot of time together in the office collaborating and brainstorming,” recounted Darrah. “We now go on hikes together on the weekends, and we will definitely continue to be friends after the program ends.”

In addition to new friendships and connections, this summer has also brought exciting new experiences. Construction Intern Drew Walter had the unique opportunity to see his first renewable energy sites up close during two site visits with the team, at Gonzaga Ridge Wind Farm in California, and Markum Solar Farm in Texas.

“I didn’t know what to expect going to site with my coworkers, but once we got there, the energy from the people on the field was contagious,” remarked Drew, who was excitedly anticipating seeing the sites in person after months of looking at construction designs on paper. “My visits were where I really learned the most, and being there is so different than looking at the blueprints.”

For some interns, the end of the summer program is only the beginning of their greater journey at Scout. M&A Intern and recent CU Boulder graduate Gabe Phillips will be joining the team full-time in what he considers an ideal scenario.

“I’ve gotten to know everyone on my team pretty well and we’ve worked together as a cohesive team this whole summer”, said Gabe. “I have learned so much from them and their decades of experience, and I’m thrilled to continue to apply these new skills to my work as a full-time member of the team. There really is something new to learn every day.”

As we wrap up the largest ever intern class at Scout, I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished and the impact our class has had on the company and on each other. Last week’s capstone presentations, given by each intern summarizing their work for the summer, demonstrated the wide range of disciplines, talents, and passions possessed by this group. We’ve all benefited immensely from the excellent company culture here at Scout where relationships, experiences, and learning opportunities are abundant. No matter where our careers take us, I know we’ve all benefited from spending this summer at Scout.

If you’re interested in building your career through a Scout internship, we are thrilled to announce the Summer 2025 Internship Program! Stay tuned for roles.
